Monthly Style Steal - JULY

eBay boots - buy here (and more photos)
July's style steal is this pair of Jeffrey Campbell-esque chunky platform boots from eBay.  At less than £20 they are a fraction of the price of Jeffrey Campbell's and give the same kind of impact and style without making such a massive investment. Team them with a dress like this one for a 90's inspired look or this one for a girly contrast. They would also look great with light wash mom jeans like these and a plain white tee for a casual look.

I have already ordered my pair so keep your eyes open for and ootd coming soon!

Socks & Sandals

My opinion and how I style

The classic 'socks and sandals' combination is often mocked and a lot of the time rightly so! It is one of those things that is not really socially acceptable for anyone above the age of 5. However recently I think a fashionable approach has been taken, probably as a result of the geek chic trend that we have been seeing for a few years now and it has even been appearing on the catwalk...
A selection of photos that I think represent the best of socks and sandals

Don't get me wrong these kind of socks and sandals have never and will never look good...

How I style

I have taken it upon myself to try and make it work so here is how I style socks and sandals in a way that is hopefully socially acceptable...

By using healed sandals I think you're instantly moving away from the stereo typical middle-aged man, which is a great start. I chose this nude pair from Asos and teamed them with some grey knee high socks from Topshop, I think the colours really complement each other and give a modern look. All I have teamed with my socks and sandals combo is this navy and white dress by Mina uk, I don't think you need any further accessories as the dress, socks and sandals are already making a quite a statement.

The Fashion Tag

1. How would you describe your style?
I would say it depends on how I feel that day, sometimes I will go super girly with a dress, frilly socks and t-bar shoes, other days I will be all in black with chunky boots. I also love mixing pretty girly pieces with grungy, alternative pieces. My style is always evolving but if in doubt I will go with something super classic like jeans, a white t-shirt and a blazer. Also as much as I like to be on trend, I don't get to hung up on it and often wont spend much on a piece I consider to be on trend because I know I may go off it.

2. What are you wardrobe staples?

American Apparel Disco Pants in Black
- Oversized or baggy t-shirts ( worn with leggings for a relaxed look or tucked into high waisted skirts and trousers, like my disco pants, for more of a put together look )

- A pair of classic mid/dark wash blue skinny jeans (in summer rolled to ankle grazers with sandals and in winter with scrunched up socks and ankle boots)

- white plimsolls (I love wearing these with my disco pants because the old dirty plimsolls are a great contrast to the super shiny, attention grabbing trousers)

3. Most expensive item in your closet?

Some black Topshop boots which were around the £70/£80 mark and also my black AA disco pants which were £75

4. Most wanted item?
I have wanted a 13" fluro yellow satchel by the Cambridge satchel company for over a year but I can't quite make the £125 leap!
Cambridge Satchel company 13" Fluro Yellow Satchel
A Zac Posen dress fitting
5. Favourite designer?
I'm currently loving Zac Posen, his red carpet dresses are so old Hollywood glamour and make whoever is wearing them look incredible.

6. How much do you spend on clothes?
On average h&m to Topshop prices but I love spending less obviously (in places like primark and boohoo) and don't mind spending more on investment pieces form shops like American Apparel and Urban outfitters.

7. What are your favourite places to shop?
Number one has got to be topshop purely because I would happily wear about 95% of the shop. Other high street stores I like are h&m and zara. American apparel for investment basics (emphasis on the word investment - cant afford to shop there for every day bits!) I also love vintage clothing but only have a few bits because there are no good vintage shops near me, I am however planning a London trip to Brick lane, Spitalfields, Camden etc. I also love online shops like Yayer, Monki and Nasty Gal.

Davidoff - Cool Water
8. Favourite fragrance?
I'm not a major perfume person, I only have three and they were all gifts but my favourite of the three is Davidoff cool water.

9. Whats your favourite way to do your hair?
Down with beach style waves or in a messy high ponytail with a 90's style scrunchie!

10. What is your go-to outfit when you have no idea what to wear?
Oversized (like mens large oversized!) t-shirt tucked into black AA disco pants with white plimsolls.

11. One fashion trend you wish would come back or stay
I love the beanie trend!! Also high waisted skirts/trousers/shorts, I remember when I was younger I wouldn't dare wear anything on my waist is was all about the low rise but now I have gone high waisted I can never go back its the most flattering cut on me by far.

12. Show us your most prize possession in your wardrobe.
My black topshop boots, I am so obsessed with them, they look amazing with every outfit and can instantly dress up an otherwise boring look.

My rather roughed up (well loved!) black topshop boots and an official photo
